A very powerful verse in the bible is Jeremiah 29:13, “ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” God is not interested in people who half heartily seek Him simply to appease their moral conscience and go to heaven while living a selfish life for themselves. God is also not interested in forcing anybody to love and worship Him by force. God wants His children to Love Him and worship Him with all their heart, all their soul and all their might because they desire His Love and Truth. If you are reading this, it is likely that you desire Truth, but here is the question: Would you be willing to change your way of life if the Truth demanded it? Would you make lifestyle changes to conform to God’s standard of living? It’s one thing to desire the Truth and another to act upon that Truth.
In Romans 1 the Apostle Paul says that humanity holds the Truth in unrighteousness, and we do not want the knowledge of God in our hearts. Simply put, this means that we reject the Truth because if we were to accept the Truth, it would mean that we would have to change our way of living, no longer sin, and live life according to God’s standard. This is scary to most people. This is too extreme, too drastic, too hard, too uncomfortable for most people to handle. However, consider Jesus’ statement in John 3:3, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” How is that for extreme? When Jesus spoke of what it meant to be saved it wasn’t a quick change of status to then revert to your own way of living—it was a change of lifestyle so much that Jesus describes it as being born again! Again, Paul says in Romans 6 that we should consider ourselves to be dead to sin and our old way of living but alive in Jesus and the new, True way of living.
Do you want the Truth? Do you want eternal meaning and purpose that extends beyond yourself? Or are you stuck in a pattern of sin, unable to break free? Think about it: If you don’t wish to change your life because you are unwilling or uncapable to change your way of living—you are a slave to yourself, a slave to your habits, your desires, your lusts and your standard of righteousness. If you are unable to change your way of living when confronted with a better and the true way of living established by God Himself, you are a slave and incapable of controlling yourself. I urge you to take a moment to fully internalize this.
You cannot hide your heart from God, you can hide it from others and even from yourself, but you cannot hide it from God. If the Truth is truly what you seek, the Truth will surely manifest itself and make Himself known to you. God is Truth and He has declared this.
You must first recognize the Truth that has already been revealed to you. That is, that you are a sinner. Let me be blunt: you are a filthy, wretched, wicked sinner who manifests nothing but death through sin. You have broken all of God’s commandments, the standard of Good, in action or at heart. Because of the abundance of your sin you don’t deserve to be in the presence of God but deserve to be sentenced to death in the fiery pits of hell for eternity. You have no place in the house of God, you’ve fallen short of the glory of God. If God’s standard of righteousness and His equitable punishment is the Law, then this is the Truth. It’s a hard pill to swallow and many will reject it and consequently reject God. If you don’t recognize that you are a sinner and deserve death, you have no need for Jesus.
If you recognize your sin and your need for Jesus all you need to do is cry out to God, admit your wrongdoings, ask Him for forgiveness and for Jesus to be your savior. There is no special prayer or magic words, it’s not about the words you say but the condition of your heart. Do you truly want to know God and are willing to repent of your sins in accordance to God’s law? Or do you have an ulterior motive and speak from selfishness or your desire to appease your conscience? If you are not seeking with all your heart with the proper motive, you are only fooling yourself.
God will grant you repentance to the acknowledging of the truth. He will destroy your old life and give you a new one. Things you once desired you will no longer be appealing as your conscience bears witness to its unrighteousness. Becoming a Christian is not just a change of status, but a change of mind. God will give you a new mind and you will experience being born again. This is the Truth and the Truth will set you free. What are you waiting for? The time in now! I speak to you with sincere Love, not just my own love, but the Love of the Father who works through me.
As a sign of being born again Jesus commands us to be baptized in the name of the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit (Matt 28:19, Mark 16:16). This can be done at a church by a pastor or even by a Christian friend at the lake! Make sure to have friends and family around to witness this amazing act that even Jesus did!
